A Life Skills Curriculum
by Nicole Ouellette
In reading some other blogs, I came across a life skills curriculum outlined at one of my favorite blogs Cheap Healthy Good.
Normally source of good recipes and fun food commentary, one contributor decides to tackle how to teach useful skills to junior high/high school students.
As Home Ec and Life Skills programs get cut, I wonder how (or even if) schools are going to tackle teaching these skills.
Check out the 12 Week Life Skills Curriculum here. And the comments are as interesting as the curriculum!

Free Technology for Teachers
Western Maine's own Richard Byrne shares a wealth of free technology resources and how teachers can use them on his daily-updated blog, Free Technology for Teachers. His reviews are based on carefully checking out the latest developments and concisely reporting on how they might be used in the classroom and elsewhere. I find that dropping into his blog saves a great deal of time in sorting through the plethora of new applications . . . Richard does it for us.

TelstarToo Session: Blogging
“One of the reasons we fear these technologies is because we as teachers don’t yet understand them or use them. But the reality is that our students already do. It’s imperative that we be able to teach our kids how to use the tools effectively and appropriately because right now they have no models to follow.”Essential Question: How can classroom communication and collaboration be enhanced with the use of blogs?

On Being a Professional
Latest Wicked Decent Learning Podcast titled "Going Pro".
Western Maine teachers, Jeff & Dan, continue their refreshingly honest and down-to-earth series of podcasts. Far too often education talk is stilted and abstract. Consider this weekly Maine show to be an antidote to high-sounding phrases and acronyms, to wishful thinking and elaborate schemes. Jeff & Dan give authentic voice to a love for teaching. They demonstrate curiosity and adventurous spirits while at the same time recognizing the pragmatism that is needed in working in classrooms and schools.
